Released in the UK in May 1967 and the US that June, it was an immediate commercial and critical success, widely lauded for its innovations in production, songwriting, and graphic design, for bridging popular music and fine art, and for capturing its generation and the counterculture. It won four Grammy Awards in 1968, including Album of the Year, the first rock LP to receive the honor.
