Album Facts
Beck - Sea Change Vinyl LP
Beck puts down the sampler and picks up a broken heart.
- Interscope vinyl pressing of Beck's 2002 album Sea Change
- A turn from the funk of Midnite Vultures toward slow, string-laden heartbreak
- Produced with Nigel Godrich
Released in 2002, Sea Change marked a dramatic shift from the funky, R&B-flavored Midnite Vultures. Inspired by the end of a long relationship, Beck traded sample-heavy collage and irreverent wordplay for pensive melodies, sweeping strings, and direct, confessional lyrics, producing his most personal record. Produced by Nigel Godrich, it was cut with a full band including guitarist Smokey Hormel, keyboardist Roger Manning, and drummer Joey Waronker, while Beck's father, David Campbell, arranged the strings. From "The Golden Age" to "Lost Cause" and "Lonesome Tears," it has only grown in stature since. A late-night essential.
