DJ Koco - Love & Happiness (DJ Koco Edit) Vinyl 7"
Koco cuts Monty Alexander's Al Green cover for the floor
- DJ Koco edit of Monty Alexander's version from the MPS catalog
- A side edit at 45rpm, B side original at 33rpm
- Japanese import 7-inch single
DJ Koco builds his sets entirely out of 7-inch records, which is exactly the discipline that makes his edits worth hearing: nothing is padded and everything is cut for the floor. Here he takes Monty Alexander's reading of the Al Green standard, pulled from the MPS vaults, and reshapes it with a hip-hop editor's ear, tightening the groove and pushing the piano forward until the whole thing swings harder than the original ever needed to. The A side carries the edit at 45rpm and the B side the original at 33rpm, so both versions live on one record.
