Released in 2022, Not Tight is the debut album from keyboardist Domi Degalle and drummer JD Beck, issued on Anderson .Paak's label in partnership with Blue Note Records. The duo's playing is dizzyingly complex yet stubbornly melodic, mixing jazz harmony with the precision of beat-driven hip-hop and electronic music. The guest list reflects how far their reach goes: Anderson .Paak, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, Mac DeMarco, and Kurt Rosenwinkel all drop in. It is a trailblazing, playful take on jazz from two young players, and an easy recommend for fans of Thundercat or Robert Glasper.
