The Teardrop Throbs is the first Flaming Lips studio album in six years, thirteen songs of the lush, orchestral psychedelia the band has spent three decades refining. Wayne Coyne moves between the poignant and the openly melancholy across it, most plainly on Every Teardrop Cried and The Trees Are Getting Their Leaves, and the arrangements stay generous rather than cluttered. It arrives on Third Man Records, a fitting home for a band that has never treated the studio as anything but an instrument. This is the standard black vinyl pressing.
