Hiroki Kikuta wrote Secret of Mana's score in 1993 under the hard limits of a Super Famicom cartridge, and this is what he says it always sounded like in his head. For the series anniversary he took his original MIDI data back into a modern studio and rebuilt sixteen of the game's best-known pieces from the ground up: 'Fear of the Heavens', 'Into the Thick of It', 'The Little Sprite', 'Danger', 'Prophecy'. The melodies are untouched. The percussion breathes, the choral samples finally sound like voices, and the reverb has somewhere to go. Fifty seven minutes on one disc.
