Blue Train is the record John Coltrane made for Blue Note in 1957, and the first time he was free to pick both his own compositions and his own band: Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Kenny Drew on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums. The three-horn front line gives the title track and "Moment's Notice" real weight, and "Lazy Bird" shows where his harmonic thinking was headed. Asked in 1960 which of his albums was his favorite, Coltrane said Blue Train. This 180g pressing adds a bonus track.
