John Kaizan Neptune - Bamboo (Clear Light Green Color) Vinyl LP
Shakuhachi run through jazz fusion, and it absolutely works.
- Shakuhachi player John Kaizan Neptune's third album, originally released in 1980
- Backed by the Arakawa Band, led by saxophonist Tatsuhiko Arakawa
- Remastered by Katsutoshi Kitamura, on clear light green vinyl
John Kaizan Neptune is an American who moved to Japan, studied the shakuhachi seriously enough to earn the Kaizan title in the Tozan school, and then spent a career pushing the instrument somewhere it had never been. Bamboo is his third album and the one that made the case: shakuhachi threaded through jazz fusion, backed by the Arakawa Band led by saxophonist Tatsuhiko Arakawa. It picked up the Excellence Award at the Agency for Cultural Affairs Art Festival, a first for both a jazz record and a foreign artist. Remastered by Katsutoshi Kitamura, on clear light green vinyl.
