Released in 2012, good kid, m.A.A.d city is Kendrick Lamar's major-label debut, a story told from the very first track to the last. It follows a single day in his teenage Compton life, with skits, voicemails and shifting perspectives stitching the songs together like scenes in a film. The songs land on their own too: "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe," "Swimming Pools," "Money Trees" and "m.A.A.d city" helped make Kendrick a name known by everyone. This 10th anniversary double vinyl edition celebrates a record that still feels urgent and vivid. Essential for any modern rap shelf.
