LCD Soundsystem's 2005 debut is where James Murphy, co-founder of DFA Records, turned years of record-collector obsession into a band. The album pulls from post-punk, krautrock and disco in equal measure, built on drum machines, cowbell and Murphy's deadpan, self-aware vocals. "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House" is the party-starter, "Tribulations" and "Movement" bring the punk snarl, and "Never as Tired as When I'm Waking Up" shows a tender streak that would define his later records. Nine tracks of dance-punk that still sound right on a Friday night, on a single LP in a gatefold sleeve.
