Les De Merle - Spectrum (Marble Color) Vinyl LP
Rare groove jazz funk classic
- Limited marble vinyl reissue of Les DeMerle's 1968 debut Spectrum
- A rare-groove classic and noted hip-hop sampling source
- Features jazz greats Frank Foster, Lew Tabackin, Joe Beck, and Marvin Stamm
Spectrum, the 1968 debut from funky drummer Les DeMerle, is a rare groove classic and a known hip-hop sampling source, including for rapper O.C. The lineup is stacked: Frank Foster, Lew Tabackin, Ernie Lawrence and Chris Woods on saxophones, Charles Sullivan and Marvin Stamm on trumpet, guitarist Joe Beck and pianist Norman Simmons. From the explosive title track to the deep jazz-funk of Underground, a funk take on The Beatles' A Day in the Life and the breezy, Brazilian-tinged Aquarius, it proves DeMerle was an extraordinary drummer from the start. Reissued on limited marble vinyl.
