Album Facts
L'Imperatrice - Tako Tsubo CD
A Paris disco breakup album with a broken, glittering heart.
- CD edition of L'Imperatrice's 2021 album Tako Tsubo
- Nu-disco, funk bass and vintage synths from the Paris six-piece
- Produced by Renaud Letang and mixed by Neal Pogue
Tako Tsubo, Japanese for octopus trap, is also the medical name for broken-heart syndrome, a weakening of the heart brought on by intense emotional distress. Fittingly, this 2021 record is the Paris band L'Imperatrice's breakup album, trading the idealized romance of Matahari for something more anchored in reality. They keep their taste for dance, virtuoso bass grooves, vintage synths and glittery melodies while exploring new terrain, with production from Renaud Letang and a mix by Neal Pogue. Ambivalent love, euphoria, sorrow and madness run through it. This is the CD edition.
