Portraits is the 2015 debut album from Maribou State, the London duo of Chris Davids and Liam Ivory, and the record that made their name in downtempo electronica. Warm house rhythms, organic samples and textured beats sit beneath a run of lush guest vocals, giving the album a hazy, sunlit glow that has aged remarkably well. It moves easily between late-night club music and headphone listening, never in a hurry and always melodic. Released on Counter Records, the Ninja Tune imprint, this is the CD edition of a modern downtempo touchstone and a natural companion to the band's later records.
