Mariya Takeuchi - Variety (30th Anniversary Edition) (Japan Import) CD
The comeback record that hid Plastic Love at track two
- The 2014 30th anniversary remaster, eighteen tracks with seven previously unreleased
- Produced by Tatsuro Yamashita, originally issued on Moon Records in 1984
- Track two is Plastic Love, the song that reopened city pop to the world
Variety is the record that brought Mariya Takeuchi back. Released on Moon Records in April 1984 after three years away raising a family, it was the first album she wrote and composed entirely herself, with her husband Tatsuro Yamashita producing and his own band playing the sessions. Ryuichi Sakamoto turns up on synthesizers, Ernie Watts on saxophone. Track two is Plastic Love, which spent thirty years as an album cut before the internet found it and pulled the whole city pop catalogue along behind it. This 30th anniversary remaster runs eighteen tracks, adding seven previously unreleased.
