In 1976, at the height of America's houseplant mania, Juilliard-trained arranger Mort Garson pointed his Moog at the ficus and made a record for the greenery. Mother Earth's Plantasia was originally handed out free with plants bought at a Los Angeles shop on Melrose, and its ten bucolic, gently stoned synth miniatures, among them 'Symphony for a Spider Plant' and 'Music to Soothe the Savage Snake Plant,' have since traveled from thrift-store obscurity to full-blown cult adoration. Fifty years on, it still makes the synthetic feel strangely alive. This anniversary edition is the first authorized eco-friendly pressing, on 100% recycled eco-green vinyl in a fully recycled jacket, with a reproduction of Mother Earth's plant care booklet and a plantable seed-paper download card.
