Two years, nineteen studios and a budget that nearly sank Creation Records produced an album that still does not sound like anything else. Kevin Shields buried the guitars under tremolo and glide, pushed Bilinda Butcher's voice down into the mix until it became another texture, and let the whole thing bloom rather than resolve. Only Shallow, When You Sleep and Soon are the entry points, but Loveless works as a single mass of sound.
