This isn't an album, it's a sermon
- Standard black vinyl pressing of Nourished by Time's The Passionate Ones
- Future-soul, R&B, and experimental electronic from one of 2025's breakout voices
- Essential pickup for collectors of cutting-edge modern soul
The Passionate Ones is the 2025 XL Recordings album from Nourished by Time, the Baltimore songwriter and producer Marcus Brown, who wrote, produced and performed it almost entirely himself. Made between London, New York and Baltimore, it pulls the city's mix of R&B, jazz, punk, indie and hip-hop into lo-fi, synth-heavy soul about love, labor and refusing to go numb under late capitalism. Brown's voice burns as it soothes, and Jojo, with UK vocalist Tony Bontana, is a haunting standout. Raw, heartfelt and genre-fluid, it is one of modern soul's most distinctive records.
