Idlewild is the last OutKast album and the strangest, tied to a Prohibition-era musical the pair made together and playing more like two solo records sharing a sleeve. Andre 3000 goes deep into ragtime, swing and cabaret pastiche; Big Boi stays closer to the Georgia funk that built them. Mighty O opens it hard, Morris Brown brings in a marching band, and Idlewild Blue drifts somewhere else entirely. Uneven by design and full of ideas nobody else was attempting in 2006.
