Album Facts
Paul Ngozi - Heavy Metal: Live! Nairobi International Casino! Vinyl LP
Lost Zamrock, fifty years in the vault, fuzz intact
- Recorded in 1977 at Sapra Studio in Nairobi, unreleased past test pressing
- First commercial issue, licensed from the estates of Paul Ngozi and Chrissy Zebby Tembo
- Zamrock at its fuzziest, only partly live despite the title
Paul Ngozi and the Ngozi Family were central to Zamrock, the Zambian rock movement that grew out of the country's post-independence years. This 1977 album never got past the test pressing stage and sat unreleased for nearly fifty years. Now-Again licensed it directly from the estates of Ngozi and Chrissy Zebby Tembo and put it out properly. Recorded at Sapra Studio in Nairobi, it is thick fuzz guitar and funk-leaning rhythm with Zambian melody pulling everything sideways, and only part of it is actually live.
