Randy Newman - Good Old Boys (Rocktober 2026) (Rhino Reserve) Vinyl LP
A song cycle written entirely in voices he distrusts
- Rhino Reserve 180 gram pressing, cut from the original analog tape
- Newman's 1974 song cycle about the American South
- Includes 'Rednecks' and 'Louisiana 1927'
Good Old Boys is Randy Newman's song cycle about the American South, written entirely in the voices of people he does not endorse. It opens with 'Rednecks,' a song so uncomfortable it is still argued over, and closes having made a serious case that the North was no better. 'Louisiana 1927' has since become a standard, sung far from the irony Newman built into everything around it. The orchestrations are gorgeous throughout. Rhino Reserve, cut from the analog tape. Street date: October 23.
