Album Facts
RJD2 - Deadringer (Green Eco Color) Vinyl LP
The 2002 debut, and the one Ghostwriter comes from.
- RJD2's 2002 debut, home to Ghostwriter
- Soul, rock and library records layered until the sources stop mattering
- Two green eco LPs in a full colour sleeve
Deadringer is the record that made the case for sample-based instrumental hip-hop as an album form rather than a beat tape. RJD2 built it in 2002 out of soul, rock and library records, layering them until the sources stop mattering and the arrangements take over, and Ghostwriter still does the thing it does from the first bar. Blueprint, Copywrite and Jakki appear, but the producer is the voice. It is the debut everything else he has made gets measured against. Pressed across two green eco LPs in a full colour sleeve.
