Album Facts
Scientist - Introducing Scientist: The Best Dub Album in the World Vinyl LP
Tubby's teenage heir, making good on a very boastful title.
- Scientist's 1980 debut LP, recorded with Sly and Robbie at Channel One
- Mixed at King Tubby's studio in Kingston
- 2026 repress from Superior Viaduct
Hopeton Brown was still a teenager when King Tubby hired him, and within a few years he had inherited the throne. His 1980 debut earns the title on the sleeve: recorded with Sly and Robbie at Channel One and mixed at Tubby's, it runs hypnotic basslines, reverb-soaked keyboards and start-stop rhythms that keep pulling the floor away. "Steppers" opens with the phrasing of someone who already knew exactly what he was doing, and "Scientific" stretches the guitars into spaced-out texture and muted tension. A 2026 repress from Superior Viaduct.
