Jazz Samba is the 1962 Verve session that carried bossa nova into American jazz. Guitarist Charlie Byrd had brought the sound home from a State Department tour of Brazil, and with tenor saxophonist Stan Getz he cut this album in a single day at All Souls Unitarian Church in Washington, D.C., with Creed Taylor producing. Getz's breathy, unhurried tone floats over Byrd's nylon-string lines and a light, swaying rhythm section on "Desafinado," "Samba de Uma Nota So," "O Pato" and "Baia." Gentle, sunny and endlessly replayable.
This 180-gram orange vinyl edition adds two bonus tracks to the original program.
