Album Facts
Stan Getz & João Gilberto - Getz/Gilberto (Verve Essential Vinyl Series) Vinyl LP
The bossa nova record that started it all, Ipanema included
- The 1964 album featuring 'The Girl from Ipanema' and 'Desafinado'
- Stan Getz and João Gilberto with Antonio Carlos Jobim on piano
- Astrud Gilberto's first recorded vocal performance
The record that carried bossa nova out of Rio and into every living room in America. Stan Getz's tenor floats over João Gilberto's guitar and murmured Portuguese, Antonio Carlos Jobim sits at the piano playing his own songs, and on 'The Girl from Ipanema' Gilberto's wife Astrud steps to the microphone for the first time in her life. 'Desafinado', 'Corcovado' and 'O Grande Amor' fill out a session that never raises its voice and never needs to. Part of the Verve Essential Vinyl Series.
