Stephen Sanchez - Angel Face Vinyl LP
A 1958 crooner's love story, sung like Roy Orbison never left
- Doo-wop and gospel crooning built around a 1958 love story
- Includes "Until I Found You" and a duet with Laufey
- Produced by Ian Fitchuk and Konrad Snyder
Stephen Sanchez's debut album plays like a lost record from 1958. Angel Face follows a loose story about an alter ego, The Troubadour Sanchez, a crooner who rises to fame, falls for Evangeline, the girlfriend of a mob boss, and pays the price. Produced mostly by Ian Fitchuk and Konrad Snyder, it leans on doo-wop harmonies, gospel swell and a vibrato that critics keep comparing to Roy Orbison. You get the slow-dance favorite "Until I Found You," the singles "Evangeline," "Only Girl" and "Be More," and "No One Knows," a duet with Laufey. Lord Huron's Ben Schneider also lends a hand on production. A 1xLP for anyone who misses the jukebox era.
