The Strokes arrived fully formed in 2001: eleven tight, wiry songs about downtown boredom and bad romance, recorded with Gordon Raphael and carried by Julian Casablancas' blown-out vocal against the interlocking guitars of Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr. This 2020 reissue restores the original international artwork, Colin Lane's leather-gloved photograph that American pressings swapped for a bubble-chamber image, and it keeps New York City Cops in the ninth slot where the US CD put When It Started. Mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound. Still the sound of a band making it look effortless.
