Thee Sacred Souls - Thee Sacred Souls (self-titled) Vinyl LP
San Diego trio's debut of 60s soul, early 70s R&B groove style
- Penrose Records vinyl pressing of the Thee Sacred Souls debut album
- San Diego trio signed to Daptone's Penrose imprint after their first club dates
- Sweet, unhurried soul built on brushed drums and warm bass
Thee Sacred Souls are a San Diego trio, drummer Alex Garcia, bassist Sal Samano and singer Josh Lane, whose first club dates led to a record deal with the Daptone family. Their self-titled debut, produced by Bosco Mann, aka Daptone co-founder Gabriel Roth, is a warm, textured record that mixes the easygoing grace of sweet 60s soul with the grit and groove of early 70s R&B. Lane's weightless vocals ride a deep-pocket rhythm section, with hints of Chicano, Philly, Chicago and Memphis soul throughout. Deliberately analog but never a costume piece, it sounds sincere, modern and timeless all at once. Made for slow dancing.
