The second Runt album is where Todd Rundgren stopped hiding behind studio tricks and simply wrote. Recorded in 1971, it is a songwriter's record first: piano ballads, aching melodies and arrangements that never crowd the vocal. 'Be Nice to Me,' 'A Long Time, A Long Way to Go' and 'Boat on the Charles' still sound like someone working something out in real time. It set the table for Something/Anything? the year after. This Rhino Reserve edition was cut from the analog tape. Street date: October 30.
