Tom Petty's Greatest Hits, released on MCA in 1993, is about as close to a perfect front-to-back hits record as rock gets. It gathers his best work with the Heartbreakers and from his solo Full Moon Fever era, from the jangling rush of "American Girl" and "Refugee" to the open-road ease of "Free Fallin'," "I Won't Back Down" and "Learning to Fly." It also introduced a new song, "Mary Jane's Last Dance," which went on to become one of his signatures. For anyone starting a classic rock shelf, this is the place to begin. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl.
