Two years on from Nell' Ora Blu, their synth-heavy score for a Giallo film that never existed, the Cambridge band swing back toward guitars. Shapes of Midnight is a macabre concept record drawing on Edgar Allan Poe's The Masque of the Red Death, tracked live to tape at Abbey Road through 1960s EMI desks and old Neumanns. Eight songs of what they call the Evil Beatles sound: downtuned fuzz, two-part harmonies, Thin Lizzy twin-guitar lines and paperback horror lyrics. "House by the Grave", "When Evil Wakes" and "Psycho on the Loose" lead it. Purple opaque vinyl for North America. Street date: September 18.
