Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 coming-of-age drama The Outsiders adapted S.E. Hinton's 1967 novel, with a young cast of rising stars and a story centered on the rivalry between two Tulsa teenage gangs, the working-class Greasers and the wealthier Socs. Aiming for the widescreen scope of a teen Gone with the Wind, Coppola asked his father, Carmine Coppola, to score the film, and the result is epic and romantic, a return to a golden age of Hollywood film composing that grows darker as the characters meet their tragic destinies. Stevie Wonder co-wrote and performed the closing-credits song Stay Gold, included here. The inner sleeves feature extensive notes by Daniel Schweiger on the film, the soundtrack, and the Coppola father-and-son partnership.
