Vince Guaraldi wrote the jazz a whole country learned Christmas from. Commissioned in 1965 for the CBS television special, the trio's score put a working jazz piano trio in front of a mass audience and never talked down to it: "Linus and Lucy" swings hard, "Christmas Time Is Here" carries real melancholy, and "Skating" still sounds like the snow it was written for. Sixty years on it holds up as a jazz record first and a holiday one second. This RSD Essentials edition is pressed on snowstorm color vinyl. Street date: September 11.
